First Baptist Church
3100 Bell Avenue at N. Cardinal

The city's first Protestant African-American congregation, First Baptist traces its roots all the way back to 1817, when it was organized as First African Baptist Church. The church has been located on the present site since 1917, but a fire destroyed the original building in 1940. It was immediately rebuilt.

An adjacent rec building, the First Baptist Center, is boarded up and deteriorating.
