The Continental Building

It took another year to finish working out the complex financing, which was largely dependent on state historic preservation tax credits. But the deal was sealed in April 2001, and before the month was out, interior demolition work was underway. The Continental Building, after 22 years of abandonment and decay, was at last being rehabilitated.

Developer Stephen Trampe worked out a complex $28 million package to finance the building's conversion into over 100 apartments (including 3 top-level penthouses) with a restaurant and pool. A 4-story garage has been built on the site of the Wagoner Building. The Wagoner has been removed, but the facade was carefully dismantled rather than simply being obliterated. Presumably it is in storage and might return to the site in some fashion.

HBD Contracting is the builder on the job.
