Only a quarter mile or so from the park is one of the city's last operating factories, the Lynch Avenue plant of Elementis Pigments, a manufacturer of iron oxide pigments. Red dust coats the outside of the factory and the road around it, giving it an oddly rusted look. The factory's older buildings date from the 1920s.
