The University Club tower, seen in the distance, is one of the tallest structures in the area. Its thin profile makes it particularly distinct.

The tower went up in 1918 from plans by Eames and Young. It was occupied by the University Club till 1974. Office space in the lower floors eventually became vacant and was converted to housing; in that incarnation it bottomed out in 1990 when HUD took over the troubled building from its owners. Renovated, under new management and filled to capacity, the building is now known as the University Plaza.
