524 Trinity Avenue - University City
Architect: Eric Mendelsohn, Bernard Bloom
1950
Originally built as the B'Nai Amoona Synagogue, the building wraps around a courtyard garden. Varying heights among its components add a sense of complexity, while the spectacular swoop of the auditorium roof hovers above. The building is clad in orange brick and gleaming stainless steel.
Within, the auditorium now hosts stage performances. Necessary concessions to functionality -- stage lighting gantries and the covering of the central skylight windows -- now mar the once-pristine interior, but the space remains impressive.
