St. Andrew Presbyterian Church
5905 Loughborough - south City
Architect: Harris Armstrong
1960
I have a hard time imagining that it was originally meant to be colored sky blue; in its current state, it straddles the line between fine composition and kitsch. But the bold interplay of its two major elements, the deeply inscribed brickwork, the gold mosaic, and the dramatic front window make it a building worth celebrating. The fall of morning light through the slit windows onto the front wall of the sanctuary is nothing short of breathtaking.
