Lake Forest Plaza
Photographs from December 28, 2006
We made a random turn south, heading away from the lake and into the neighborhoods of New Orleans East along Read Boulevard. Even in the places where life was returning to normal, the remants of storm damage were everywhere.
One of the innumerable drainage canals that criss-cross the city and make life here possible. This one forms the median of Morrison Road.
Ordinary strip developments along Read north of I-10, battered by the storms and the deterioration that has set in since.
This fallen sign, highly visible from I-10, has become one of the iconic images of post-Katrina New Orleans. The fact that it still stands like this, 16 months later, is a testament to how far this part of the city has fallen.
