Built St. Louis > > The North Side > > Fountain Park
An exception to the mostly well-kept park neighborhood is this beautiful commercial building
at the east end.
Vacant for nearly twenty years, it has been stripped of much ornament (though its ornate brickwork remains.) A rear wall is also starting to collapse.
As Toby Weiss writes, the curve of its facade gracefully follows that of the street. Its broad lower story is crying out for a quiet cafe or coffee shop with some sidewalk seating.
A related building stands behind it, more conventional in plan but harmonious in style and materials.
