1133 Washington Avenue
Washington Avenue Apartments
Originally: The St. Louisian Hotel
Later: Days Inn Hotel
1133 Washington is a random injection of MidCentury Modern into the otherwise pre-War stylings of the Avenue. The checkerboard of color on its opaque facade was long-gone, leaving its Jetsons-space-age architecture appearing rather tepid. It was not aging well by the time the last occupant, a Days Inn, closed its doors circa 2000.
The building's future was unclear for a few years. In 2007, however, it was renovated with a superbly tasteful update of its MidCentury look, and now is in service as an apartment house.
