Continuing north brings one to the 1900 block of Montgomery. This block has stood completely vacant for several years, with the results visible here.
Above: October 2002. Below: January 2003. Most of the bottom houses were demolished in 2005.
I eventually chose this block for my final design project for graduate school. The Slow Death of a City Block examines the block in great detail, relates its history to the decline of the city at large, and presents an option for rebuilding.

May 2003: New housing rising just west of the block, facing onto 21st Street and St. Louis Place Park.

November 2005: A lonely surviving house on 20th Street. I spoke briefly with the occupant in 2003. It appears to have been vacated since then.
