The 5000-5100 blocks of Page Boulevard, just west of Kingshighway, are a tragic study in urban decay. Physically, this was and still is one of the city's finest avenues, lined with houses that show both individual artistry and integration into a complete streetscape. But abandonment has spread like plague, and the houses are coming down one by one.

Top: the northern side of the block, December 2002. Facade and cornice alignment along with judicious use of repeated elements such as bay windows and gabled dormers gives the block a satisfyingly unified appearance.

Bottom: the southern side, December 1998. The two houses at the far right were demolished by 2000. Their closest neighbor, seen at center in October 2002, is not fairing well.
