1110 Washington Ave

The Vanguard Lofts
Originally: Catlin-Morton Building
Later: The Vanguard Building
Architect: Isaac Taylor, 1901

Technically, the former Vanguard Building is two structures with a single unifying facade. The dividing line is clearly identifiable on the Washington Avenue facade.

The Vanguard Building was among the dirtiest and shabbiest-looking buildings on the Avenue by the end of the 20th century. A 2002 renovation brought it back to life. The facade was cleaned, and numerous new windows were cut in the east-facing party wall. Today it is home to loft apartments.
