1514 Washington Avenue
The Ely Walker Lofts
Originally: Ely Walker Dry Goods Company
Architect: Eames & Young, 1906? 1917?
This vast block is one of the biggest on the street.
In 2001, the building was known as Washington Square; the ground level was occupied by Gold's Gym. That same space
today is occupied by a high-end furniture and antiques store, English Living.

Nearly the same view, May 2008.

This is the view looking east from 18th Street at the turn of the century. What a site it must have been! The buildings include:
Ely Walker, the red building right of center.
The White House, the large white building at right-center. It was demolished in 1975 for a parking lot.
1706 Washington Ave at the right edge.
The King Bee Building at left edge.
